Hailey Memoriam
This project is a representation of the grief I felt and still feel about my cousin Hailey's death. It consists of a poem I wrote, a letter from her sister, Kelsey, to her, a couple similarities between us, Kelsey and I's college experiences, and family photos of how different it is without her. The other family photos are reminiscing of our childhood when we lived a few minutes away from each other.
The Southwest Fiasco (2022)
In late December of 2022, me and my family were stuck in the Denver, CO airport while all of the Southwest flights were delayed or cancelled. With a camera and nothing to do but wait for 9 hours I decided to document the situation. We ended up having to leave and reschedule our flight for two days later, stuck in Colorado for Christmas.
Christian and Queer
My name is Andi, I’m Christian, and queer
Some find it funny, since they seem to collide
But you’d be surprised
There’s a lot of talk in media, false truths and beliefs, some who think they’re doing good, doing God’s work on the streets.
In reality they’re creating harm, tension, and cracks, but cracks can be mended
Mended if we can stop the hate, learn to love, and learn to accept each other
Some say the only Bible people will read is you and if that is true then I’ll do my best every day to live the life that He teaches,
one full of love and compassion towards others, a life free of judgement and full of welcoming.
“You’re one of the good ones” it’s a phrase I hear often; I know they mean well, but there’s something about it
Cause I’m not “good” I just am, a true believer
I preach with excitement and not praise from the public or the intent to convert.
For my God cares not about riches or big words, But of the faith that lives inside
I hate that the Bible has been used as a weapon, a stone to throw and not to keep
Jesus sat with the sinners, the broken, and ill
He put hypocrites in their place
“Let him who is without sin throw the first stone” He said. I think it still applies
For how can the same who sins by lies or idols created judge those who do not believe,
or those who sin through lust or greed?
But my God taught us to love, unconditionally
My queer friends are suspicious for the hypocrites have poisoned their words
Using Jesus’ name with venom
But rest assured those people do NOT represent what He truly stands for and died for.
I wear my pride like a badge on my sleeve, or a pin on my bag.
I wear binders with no shame, and dress a way that feels like me.
I am proudly queer, and proudly Christian, and I’ll raise that rainbow flag because at the end of the day it means love,
in both contexts
